Behind the Song – "First Become Last"

"So the last will be first, and the first will be last." — Matthew 20:16

This song was inspired by one of Jesus' most challenging teachings. In a world obsessed with status, fame, power, and being first, Jesus calls us to a completely different way of living. His Kingdom doesn't measure greatness the way the world does.

"First Become Last" is about laying down pride, choosing humility, serving instead of seeking recognition, and trusting that God's reward is greater than anything this world can offer. Sometimes what looks like losing in the world's eyes is actually winning in God's.

More than anything, this song points to Jesus Himself—the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6). He came in the flesh so that we could know the Father and receive eternal life. He also gives an invitation that still stands today:

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." — Matthew 11:28

If you're carrying anxiety, guilt, fear, or the weight of trying to prove yourself, Jesus is the answer. He is still calling people to Himself, offering forgiveness, peace, and rest that the world can never provide.
